Arkki shortlisted for Helsinki Design Awards

Arkki shortlisted for Helsinki Design Awards 2018 Internationalization category

Helsinki Design Awards is one of the most prominent design events in Finland to acknowledge Finnish designers and design products. Helsinki Design Awards acknowledges Finnish designers and companies investing in design. Helsinki Design Awards, previously known as Muoto Gala, has been organised since 2011. In September during Helsinki Design Week it’s once again time to award Finnish design. Winners are chosen in five different categories: Young Talent of the Year, Product of the Year, Lifetime, Internationalization and Jury’s Choice.

Arkki is shortlisted as a finalist in the Internationalisation category. The receiver of this award is a fine example of Finnish design exports. The awardee must be a Finnish company, community or person representing quality design and using it to operate internationally. For example, the awardee has exported a product or a service on international markets or promoted the visibility of Finnish design. The winner is decided by the jury but the public could also propose awardees until 5 June.

In a video made of Arkki, Arkki’s co-founder and the CEO of Arkki International Pihla Meskanen, discusses Finland’s education system, and why it is a joy to work with children and architecture, as well as why Finnish architecture and design thinking is so special. In Finland architecture is part of the basic education system of art, which means that the Ministry of Education has formulated a very rare but core curriculum for children that includes the creative fields (music, dance, art and architecture). As such, many countries around the world are hugely interested in the Finnish education system, as this type of curriculum is so special.
