EU New European Bauhaus initiative. 16 groups of Arkki Finland and Greece pupils envision the future cities, environments, and buildings.
Arkki School of Architecture for Children and Youth, Finland, and Arkki Greece are running a child participation project. They are taking part in the open co-planning EU initiative New European Bauhaus. The program aims to connect people to build beautiful, sustainable, inclusive places to live together after the pandemic. Arkki has conducted numerous co-planning projects in different countries. This is the first time involving children on the European level.
“I want #NextGenerationEU to kickstart a European renovation wave and make our Union a leader in the circular economy. But this is not just an environmental or economic project: it needs to be a new cultural project for Europe.” Ursula Von der Leyen
Pupil’s innovative solutions for life after the pandemic
During the live, online, and hybrid classes, children discussed the main topics of the initiative and made their own ideas about beautiful, sustainable, and inclusive living and life. The 4-14-year-old pupils expressed their thoughts with comic strips and 3D models of future cities and buildings.
Pupils came up with amazing ideas such as a bubble city, cities filled with music, different building renovations, and transformations, buildings made by robots, new energy sources, green buildings, or underwater buildings.
Empowering participation and influence in the creation of our future environment
The main purpose of the Arkki Futuvision project is to enable participation for children and youth in the European Bauhaus project. During the sessions, they ideate, design, and prototype in relation to beautiful, sustainable, and inclusive living and life. Arkki International´s Headteacher, Jere Keskinen leads and facilitates this teacher-pair project with the different groups. Children will continue working on their prototypes until the end of April.
Children are some of the most important users of our cities. Arkki aims to raise their voice and provide them with the means, capacities, and mediums to influence the creation of our future environment.
